CHICAGO — “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” an iconic broadcast that began as a local Chicago talk show and grew over two decades into the foundation of a media empire worth billions, will end its run in 2011 after 25 seasons on the air, Winfrey’s production company said Thursday night.
A very good article about Giorgio Armarni was recently published in The New York Times.
Mr. Armani was a child in Mussolini’s Italy. From 1961 to 1970, he designed the Hitman label for Nino Cerruti. In 1974, with the support of a partner, Sergio Galeotti, Mr. Armani formed his own company. Sales, in 1975, totaled $14,000.
In 1980, Mr. Armani designed Richard Gere’s wardrobe for “American Gigolo.” Overnight the Armani suit became the Ferrari of men’s fashion — an internationally recognized symbol of success, which, by virtue of superlative engineering, was also the sexiest thing on wheels. His annual sales grew to $100 million by 1985. Money, grace, respect and all the dirty glamour of Hollywood. What more could a designer want?
The House ethics committee is currently investigating seven African-American lawmakers — more than 15 percent of the total in the House. And an eighth black member, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.), would be under investigation if the Justice Department hadn’t asked the committee to stand down.
Not a single white lawmaker is currently the subject of a full-scale ethics committee probe.

After relaunching their website, Essence magazine laid off its web team citing budgetary reasons.
“They told us it was downsizing,” says one Essence employee. “We’re very confused. We worked so hard for the relaunch.”
Another insider tells Journalsticks: “This is normal practice. Companines relaunch with new [site] schemes that allow them to do more with less, then they cut staff.”
In addition to letting go of the web team, Essence also let go of some magazine staffers.

Evisu over the years and like any other company, made changes to their icon and their identity, but the way in which they make jeans always stayed true to form.
Form over function.
Function creates identity.
Re-Launch of Evisu
Evisu is now re-launching its brand with a new collection for men and women (from $150 to $700 a pair). The collection pays homage to the unsung, forgotten roots of the brand, along with the quality, craftsmanship, and authenticity that made them the standard in denim in the late-90s, back when there were waiting lists for the 12 pairs that Barneys New York received each month. Evisu was also the first denim brand to sell mainstream for over $100 a pair.
